It's worthwhile to get a Covid test when we have cold symptoms. Those of us on meds other than HCQ are still more prone to serious complications from Covid, as this sneaky virus continues to mutate and escape our defenses. When started within the first five days, Paxlovid helps prevent us from getting really sick.

If you're coughing up phlegm, Mucinex is helpful, Christine. If in doubt as to whether the infection is in the chest, please get checked to ensure you don't have pneumonia. For the healthy, temperatures below 101.5 are not as concerning for bacterial infection; however, older and immunosuppressed individuals may not mount as high a fever in response to infection.

I hope you both feel better soon!🥰

I have a cold and have been resting whenever time allows. This week I kept my schedule and activities light except for seeing my rheumatologist today and running some errands during the week.

Make sure to get your intake of vitamin C, stay hydrated with liquids and broth, stay away from crowds, and mask up. Stock up on cold medicine, your favored herbal teas, tissues, and hand sanitizer. Celestial Seasonings Throat Cooler and Bigelow green elderberry teas have been soothing to me as well but as green tea with honey. I hope that you will feel better soon.

*I look forward to hearing other suggestions.

Managing a cold or flu with lupus requires extra care, since infections can trigger flares and put added stress on your immune system. Here are some key steps to help you get through it:

Protect yourself before getting sick:
- Stay up to date on flu and COVID-19 vaccines
- Wear a mask in crowded indoor spaces
- Avoid people who are visibly unwell

When you're sick:
- See your doctor promptly if you develop a fever over 100°F
- Keep taking your lupus medications as prescribed — don't stop without consulting your doctor
- Stay well hydrated with cool water throughout the day
- Rest as much as your body needs

Support your recovery:
- Prioritize sleep by keeping a consistent schedule and a cool, dark bedroom
- Practice stress reduction through meditation, gentle breathing, or mindfulness
- Lean on your support network — family and friends can be a huge help

A word of caution: infections can sometimes cause lupus flares, so monitor your symptoms closely and don't hesitate to contact your healthcare team if things feel off. It's always better to check in early rather than wait.

Be gentle with yourself during this time — your body is working hard! 💙

I'm assuming it's a cold. Head was stuffy last week than started with a sore throat yesterday. Had a temp of 99.9 (my normal is 96.8) Then the chills began and I woke up at midnight drenched in sweat, temp was 100.5 . I've been sleeping all day! I have a call into my Rheumy, but haven't heard back. I think as long as my temperature doesn't go over 101.3 it's nothing to worry about? I just hope the fever breaks before my next Benlysta injection is due! Thank you for the tea recommendations, I hope you feel better soon! Xo!
