Yes, it can affect your diabetes. It will make your sugar levels rise. That's the first place I look for UTI when I have high sugar levels. It can through the whole body in a tizzy and I always suspect UTI when I have some one with change in mental status and especially with us Lupies. I haven't had a UTI yet but I monitor this with checking my sugars everyday as there is a high correlation of UTI with increased sugar levels. I also do a dipstick on my urine weekly. I mainly check for protein but i look as well as other variables too. Hugs it gets better with time.

How does lupus affect mental health and status?

Lupus can have a significant impact on mental health in several ways. The combination of physical symptoms, inflammation, and medications can all play a role in how you feel emotionally and mentally.

Here are some key ways lupus can affect mental status:

- Brain fog – Cognitive issues like difficulty thinking clearly are common and don't always improve with treatment
- Depression – Up to 25% of people with lupus experience major depression
- Anxiety – Around 37% experience major anxiety, with 72% of MyLupusTeam survey respondents reporting feeling anxious regularly
- Mood swings – Corticosteroids like prednisone can cause irritability, agitation, insomnia, and depression
- Emotional toll – Feelings of loss, isolation, and grief over changes to your sense of self are very real and valid

It can sometimes be hard to tell whether depression or mood changes are caused by lupus itself, the inflammation it causes in the body, or the medications used to treat it. That's why it's really important to flag all symptoms — including emotional ones — with your doctor.

Talking to a mental health professional, and connecting with others who truly get it, can make a meaningful difference in managing the emotional weight of lupus.

Drink LOTS of Cranberry Juice and yes, it has to be sugar free. Real Cranberry Juice will prevent UTIs and help eliminate an ongoing infection. A votre santé 🍷😃
