I was hurt as a child on 4 different occasions so I always knew it was from that. At least I thought, but now I'm wondering if it's lupus related at all. I have changed laundry detergents, soaps, razors, etc. Any advice? It's not all the time but a good amount and it's annoying. I have had cysts on my ovaries before, very painful periods, 2 pregnancies that I had c sections. Before that I has 2 miss carriages which was expected because I was told due to the trauma I would never be able to have… read more

@A MyLupusTeam Member. Good afternoon! I am no medical professional nor an expert. Having a UTI doesn’t make you unclean! 🥰
Lupus affects everyone in various ways. Any stress can put you into a flare up and in essence affect your hormonal balance. Your diet matters. And here’s one thing I would love to be talked about more, lupus and menopause!!! I don’t know your age or family history but you could be dealing with premenopausal symptoms. Definitely speak with your Ob/Gyn or maybe your primary.

First, thank you for trusting and sharing something so personal — that takes courage. And yes, this can absolutely be lupus-related, so you're right to wonder.

Lupus can cause urinary tract infections (UTIs) more frequently because the immune system is already compromised. Lupus can also cause cystitis (bladder inflammation) even without an infection, which can feel very similar to a UTI.

The itching you're experiencing in that area could also be linked to lupus in a few ways:

- Hives or skin sensitivity — Lupus-related hives and skin inflammation don't only affect visible areas; they can occur anywhere on the body
- Medications — Some lupus medications can cause yeast-related irritation as a side effect
- Photosensitivity-related skin inflammation — Lupus makes skin more reactive overall, which can increase sensitivity in delicate areas Since you've already ruled out hygiene and product sensitivities by switching detergents, soaps, and razors, it's really worth bringing this up specifically with your rheumatologist or gynecologist. Mention that it's recurring and that you've already eliminated common irritants — that context will help them investigate whether lupus or your medications are contributing.

You deserve to feel comfortable, and this is absolutely worth addressing with your care team. Don't downplay it!
