Pain inside the nose, especially on one side, can be related to lupus-related inflammation or sores (ulcers) that can develop in the nasal passages. These tend to flare up alongside other lupus symptoms.

Here are some things that may help relieve the discomfort:

- Saline nasal spray β€” helps keep the inside of your nose moisturized and reduces dryness
- Petroleum jelly β€” a small dab inside the nostril can soothe irritated tissue
- A humidifier β€” adds moisture to the air, which can ease nasal passage irritation
- Avoid irritants β€” cigarette smoke, strong chemical smells, and dry air can make things worse
- Avoid touching or picking β€” as tempting as it is, this can worsen soreness and damage delicate tissue If the pain persists or worsens, a doctor may recommend treatments such as a steroid nasal spray or a topical steroid ointment to reduce inflammation and help any sores heal. In more stubborn cases, corticosteroid pills may be considered.

It's worth bringing this up with your rheumatologist, especially if it seems connected to a lupus flare. Getting your lupus well-managed is often the best way to keep nasal symptoms under control.
