Lately I've been having episodes of feeling off balance. It's not vertigo, the room isn't spinning. It's more like when you've been on a boat for a long time, then when you're on land, you still sway. It feels like the floor is moving under me. I have to hold onto something to walk. Does this happen to anyone else?
Yes this is one of my major symptoms. What is interesting is when i feel floaty like this it means rain or harsh weather coming in 2 or 3 days. Cant explain it but know im more accurate then the weather men if i pay attention to my body. Just another thing lupus has shown me.
Amanda, don't tell yourself that lie! Knowing when you need help and asking for it, is strength! Waking up everyday in the face of challenge is strength. Sharing your honest feelings is strength. You are strong! You are also blessed, like myself, to have a wonderful husband ready to help lift you up. I bet you lift him up too! My husband always tells me these things I shared. They remind me, I may have challenges, I may need help, but I still have a purpose! Every human alive has one. Don't let guilt and feelings of helplessness get you down. Been there, it is worse than needing the help. Best wishes and hugs!
Not necessarily Ashley some things have absolutely nothing to do with lupus it's just way more easier for lupies to blame it on Lupus rather than to actually face the truth
@A MyLupusTeam Member I have even thought I've seen the shag of my carpet moving like blades of grass move in the wind! I used to freak out all the time over these weird symtoms like several eyelashes falling out, big patches of bald spots in my eyebrows, twitching veins, blue fingers, blue toes, ice cold fingers and ice cold feet on a hot day. I did get a really bad flare that I could not stand up or hold my head up because I was so dizzy, I had high blood pressure too. It ended up being caused by a bad drug interaction,my rheummy had me on a stimulant and my cardiologist had me on a blood thinner. I ended up stopping both... But until I could figure that out I was literally in my bed because I kept falling over and was foggy and extremely fatigued. I slept 18 hours a day that entire week. So it could be a drug interaction even if you have been on the same ones for a while. Somethings are just due to the stress our immune system goes through being at constant war. If you have several symtoms with it the best thing to do is monitor your blood pressure... Blood pressure is always a good indication if there is inflammation or a bigger problem.
Have someone take your blood pressure and heart rate while standing. Your body could be having trouble adjusting the blood flow as you get up and walk. As others mentioned, it could be medicine related or an inner ear problem, even insulin fluctuations. This makes you at high risk for falling, which is not a thing to dismiss. I suggest you let your Doctors know. To prepare for appointment, keep a journal of what you are doing when it occurs, and the time. Doctor's like to know what, when and where....then they can help you find the why! Stay safe in the meantime! Use a walker if you have one. In my case, it ended up being POTS caused by Autoimmune Dysautonomia from the Lupus.
