Ok, I've had Moderna shots and my doctor recommends the booster. I'm nervous because they recommend stopping my Imuran for the day and for several days afterwards. Has anyone else done this? I'm just being a nervous Nelly maybe but I'm scared.
I just got my 3rd Moderna shot. I reacted somewhat strongly to it but the side effects were over in 2-3 days. To clear up some of the confusion people mentioned….
There are 3rd shots and booster shots.
3rd shots have been recommended for certain immune compromised people because they have found certain medications or illnesses might have made the vaccine less effective for some people. These 3rd shots are for both Moderna or Pfizer (I’m not sure about J&J. I’ll have to check) You have to meet certain criteria to get the “3rd shot.”
The booster shots are now being rolled out for the general public in phases. The boosters however have only been approved for Pfizer at this point. One reason why is because the Moderna shots seem to be lasting much longer then the other vaccines. There have been studies just recently reported and articles online. While after 6 months Pfizer efficacy goes down to approx 77% the Moderna efficacy is still over 90%. So yay! I’m sure we will hear the recommendations for Moderna boosters soon though. But again, if you have certain immune disease or are on medications that weaken the immune system you can still get another jab of Moderna! They won’t call it a booster though. They will call it a “3rd shot”
The 3rd shot and booster shot are exactly the same thing. The same dose, same formula. The terminology is just different since the immune compromised don’t need a “boost,” they need a 3rd shot to get the same immune response the general public did. So they are using a different word to differentiate the process between these 2 groups of people.
I hope that made sense!
@A MyLupusTeam Member I did ok with the Moderna. First shot I was a bit sore, second shot I was sick with flu like symptoms. And hurt. Just not well. This is a third vaccine that they are recommending for immune compromised folks, like us.
I wish I could get the third shot but I can't schedule until oct till then just trying to stay away from everyone
Our Primary dr told us this. It is confusing. CDC has only approved Phizer. I guess that’s the only difference. But sounds like the CDC will approve by Nov.
@A MyLupusTeam Member I'm confused. My sis and I both took Moderna vaccines. They say to make sure your third dose is the same brand? My docs said its no problem?
