Are you careful about UV protection, Jennifer? Cutaneous lupus is worsened by UV exposure, and an SPF of at least 50 (preferably over 70) is recommended. Avoiding dairy helps many with cutaneous lupus, too.

It sounds like you're dealing with multiple challenging lupus symptoms at once - this must feel really overwhelming. Hair loss is a common lupus symptom that affects many people with the condition. Some MyLupusTeam members have reported experiencing painful scalp areas and noticeable bald patches. A healthcare provider can perform specific tests, like a hair pull test or scalp biopsy, to better understand what's causing your hair loss and pain. The mouth sores you're experiencing are also a known lupus symptom, affecting about 25% of people during flares. These can make eating painful and uncomfortable. Your doctor may be able to prescribe medicated mouthwash to help provide relief and promote healing. They might also recommend foods that are gentler on your mouth while the sores heal.

It's important to keep track of when these symptoms occur in a symptom journal - this can help your rheumatologist identify patterns and adjust your treatment plan accordingly. Please reach out to your healthcare team about these symptoms, as they can help develop a management strategy specific to your needs.
