This could be a ganglion cyst, which I get in the hand and wrist, too. Healthy people also get this, and I'm not aware of any connection to lupus. It could also be joint inflammation and should be examined, Collette.

Is your bump causing pain that radiates up your arm? This could be related to cutaneous lupus, which affects up to 65% of people with SLE (systemic lupus). There are different types of skin manifestations in lupus that can cause lumps or bumps under the surface of the skin.

It's important to have your rheumatologist examine any new lumps or skin changes, especially if they're causing pain. They can determine if it's related to lupus and recommend appropriate treatment options like medicated creams or anti-inflammatory medications. If you're experiencing severe pain, numbness, tingling, or weakness along with the bump, you should seek medical attention promptly. These symptoms could indicate nerve involvement that needs immediate evaluation.

Remember to track when the bump appeared, any changes in its size, and what makes the pain better or worse - this information will help your doctor make an accurate diagnosis.

Please see your doctor, Collette! Have you tried immersing the area in cold/ice water? If this is inflammation, that often helps.

It hurts really bad. Not sure if I should make an appointment with my doctor or if this is just something normal and I have to wait for the inflammation to go down.
