Do you have a cardiologist? That’s a really important specialist to have. Try to find one who deals with Lupus patients. I have weird symptoms with my heart, too. You have to find out if they are serious or from inflammation and you find some way to deal with it. Please keep us updated.

@A MyLupusTeam Member, I have coronary artery disease I take rosuvastatin, benazepril, diltiazem and 81 mg aspirin. I have had lupus for over 30 years (I'm 65 now). I just wanted to share this with you because I know how scary having heart issues can be with lupus. 💜

Are you on a statin to lower your cholesterol, Ekaterina? That treatment (along with aspirin) is recommended in the US for anyone with coronary artery disease, even if the lipid levels are normal, as the medication helps prevent heart attack by stabilizing plaque in the arteries. Please ask about that if they find atherosclerosis.

Other possibilities include vasculitis mimicking atherosclerosis and microvascular disease, affecting the tiny blood vessels. We women are more prone to microvascular heart disease, in which the main coronary arteries appear normal. You may want to discuss these possibilities if the diagnosis is unclear.

Nitroglycerin will relieve angina, as you say, but it also relieves pain due to esophageal spasms, which can mimic heart disease. Just one more thing to consider...

Please keep us posted, and good luck!

The first time I was diagnosed with lupus, it mimicked a myocardial infarction. I was lying down with my will on my chest. It was incredibly scary. The attack happened at three in the morning. After seeing a rheumatologist, I was diagnosed.
