Yes, it's possible to have a negative AVISE Connective Tissue Disease test even after a lupus diagnosis. This test won't predict every case, and some people with lupus will have negative results.
The AVISE test is often used when symptoms or other lab results are unclear, or to provide additional information when diagnosis is uncertain. However, it's not required for diagnosis and a negative result doesn't mean your lupus diagnosis is incorrect.
Since you were recently diagnosed with lupus, your doctor likely used other important factors to make that diagnosis, such as:
- Your symptoms and physical examination
- ANA test results
- Other antibody tests (like anti-dsDNA or anti-Sm)
- Blood counts and kidney function tests
- Overall clinical picture
If you have concerns about your test results or diagnosis, it's worth discussing with your rheumatologist. They can explain how all your test results fit together and why they reached your lupus diagnosis despite the negative AVISE result.
