Put some socks on your feet. It’s Raynaud’s I have it. Just be careful because my doctor explained to me it can get out of control and cause gangrene.

What's being described sounds very much like Raynaud's phenomenon, which is closely linked to lupus. It happens when blood vessels in the feet and toes constrict, reducing blood flow and causing coldness, numbness, and color changes. During a Raynaud's episode, toes can cycle through colors — white, blue, then red — as blood flow is reduced and then returns. For people with darker skin, these color changes may be less obvious.
Some helpful ways to manage this include:
- Wearing warm, wicking socks
- Avoiding sudden temperature changes
- Keeping feet away from cold surfaces or cold water
- Gradually warming up with warm (not hot) water if an episode starts
It's worth bringing this up with your doctor, especially if it's happening frequently. They may want to review your current treatment plan or refer you to a specialist.
