I still feel horrible, and my Dr told me that the Plaquenil was working, but sometimes I really don't feel like it is.

Tina, even when labs indicate a remission with no evidence of ongoing organ injury and improvement or disappearance of autoantibodies, we still have lupus and may feel unwell. Excellent self-care continues to be critical, with plenty of rest, UV protection, healthy diet, stress reduction, etc.

To determine if lupus is in remission, doctors may perform several tests, including:

- Blood Tests: These can show whether there are low counts of red blood cells, white blood cells, or platelets, which can be caused by lupus
- Antibody Tests: Tests for antinuclear antibodies (ANA) and anti-double-stranded DNA (anti-dsDNA) Show Full Answer

- Antibody Tests: Tests for antinuclear antibodies (ANA) and anti-double-stranded DNA (anti-dsDNA) antibodies, which are common in lupus.
- Urinalysis: To check for proteins or red blood cells in the urine, indicating kidney damage.
- Imaging: Chest X-rays or echocardiograms to check for inflammation in the lungs or heart abnormalities.
- Biopsy: Skin or kidney biopsies to check for tissue inflammation.
- Neurological Exam: To assess for nerve damage or neurological symptoms.

These tests help monitor the disease's activity and assess whether it is in remission.
